  • Visual artist

Aoife McGarrigle is a visual artist from Donegal whose main discipline is printmaking, working predominantly in lithography.
The architecture of war and its material remains on the landscape has been an enduring theme in her work over the past 25 years. The abandoned ruins of military structures such as look out posts and prisoner of war camps evoke a tactile encounter with the past and prompt us to consider the nature of their existence politically and aesthetically both in a historical and contemporary sense. The work in Coalesce is a study of Stobs Camp near Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Stobs camp is the only remaining First World War Prisoner of War camp with existing structures.
