Maria Gondek is a Danish artist based in Glasgow. Working in site-specific installation and what she calls 'active sculptures', her works are site-reflective and engage with their immediate environment as well as the social, historical and architectural narratives rooted within these settings. Her work often incorporates water (in all its physical forms) and uses it as a sensory material transforming the visitor's encounter into a tangible experience. By creating situations where the senses activates the present, the viewer with their mere presence, becomes a part of the work. In this newly established coexistence, Gondek creates humorous reflections (for better or worse) of our ever-changing human conditions.
